Same cool/wet conditions here in North Texas. Tomatoes were a bust and I didn’t replant. Cucumbers were prolific. Peppers are finally coming alive. Zinnias, Henry duelberg and gomphrena look amazing. Oh well it’s all about the flowers this year.
I’ve had the same experience with potting soil since last fall across different brands and stores. It’s more like mulch. Not sure what that’s about. Lots of people report the same experience on FB so it’s not an isolated occurrence.
Hi Dennis, part of it is because companies are starting to use “forest products” in lieu of so much peat moss. There’s a real worry about over using peat bogs in Canada. However, this was the worst potting soil I have ever used. I was really disappointed in it. I do like coir potting mixes, but they hold water which would not have worked this year.
I like Black Gold’s mixes, both the organic and the conventional, but they can be difficult to find.
Dee, sorry you are struggling....with life ...in and out of your garden. But I am happy to see that you are not stopping being you. You have adjusted, learned, and now shaking it off like a true gardener. I predict you will find new plants that you would not have considered. Hello coolpenea. And new aspects of gardening, including sitting and appreciating the bounty of all that God has provided for you, in and out of your garden. A new season in your life, but you will thrive. Peace

Such a strange year. Next week we have fall temperatures. I guess I’ll plant the fall garden then. Flowers have been glorious.
It was a tough year in middle Tennessee too. And I also bought bad dirt. A truckload of it. Live and learn, right?
